This Course explores the Spiritual Theology articulated in the Gospel of St John. In the early centuries, the Church uniquely honoured St John with the title “The Theologian” (or “The Divine”), recognising the unparalleled depth and elevation of his contemplation and lived experience of God. Within the Sources of Spiritual Theology, his writings occupy a place of primary importance. Drawing on the contributions of modern exegesis and biblical theology, this Course seeks to advance beyond scholarly analysis in order to perceive and receive the spiritual and practical teachings offered by St John’s Gospel.

The Course comprises thirteen lessons, each of two hours’ duration.

The Course is structured around the following topics, with the understanding that certain areas may naturally overlap.

– Presentation of the notion of “Spiritual Biblical Theology”, its relationship with modern “Exegesis” and “Biblical Theology”.

– Introduction to the person of St John: his life (especially the latter part) and his mission.

– Analysing the cornerstone of the Gospel of St John: the Wedding at Cana.
